Silicone bakeware is light, easy to store and releases cakes and muffins without much effort. Because it bends, it needs a slightly different routine than a metal pan. These are the habits that make the difference, based on the care instructions that come with our silicone pans and molds.
1. Always Use a Firm Tray Underneath
This is the most important rule. Put the empty mold on a flat baking tray before you fill it, then move the tray, not the mold. A full silicone pan picked up by its sides can fold and spill. Our 9-inch round cake pan has side grips, and the mini loaf pans have reinforced ribs, but both still work best on a tray.
2. Check the Temperature Limit
Each mold comes with its own temperature limits on the packaging. Check them before the first use, keep the mold away from direct flames and grills, and don’t place it straight on a hot element.
3. Let It Cool Before Unmolding
Warm cakes are fragile. Let the cake or muffins cool in the mold, then gently peel the sides away and turn it out. With detailed shapes like the sunflower mold or the heart-shaped mold, patience is what keeps every petal and edge intact.
Which Shape for What
- Everyday cakes: the 9-inch round pan, about 22.5 cm across the base and 6 cm high.
- Muffins and cupcakes: the 12 silicone cups with handles stack for storage, and the six-cup jumbo pan makes larger muffins, about 7.6 cm wide.
- Mini loaves: the set of four loaf pans, about 16 cm long, good for banana bread or individual portions.
- Special occasions: the 24 cm sunflower and the 24 x 20 cm heart molds.
Cleaning
Wash with warm soapy water and a soft sponge, and let it dry completely before stacking. Avoid knives and sharp tools inside the mold; a silicone spatula is the right tool to loosen edges and scrape out batter.
