How to Choose a Bread Proofing Basket

Compare basket shape, dimensions and your baking vessel before choosing a banneton.

How To Choose A Bread Proofing Basket

What A Proofing Basket Does

A proofing basket supports a shaped loaf during its final rise. Turn the dough out onto your baking surface before baking: the basket does not go into the oven.

Choose the Shape First

Round baskets suit round loaves; oval baskets suit longer loaves. Decide which shape fits the bread you like to make and the vessel you already use. Our Walfos range also has triangular and baguette options, so check the actual silhouette in the selected photo.

Use Measurements, Not Just S or XL

Size letters are labels within a product range. Compare the dimensions shown for your selected option with your baking vessel. In our catalog, Round S is approximately 11 × 6cm, Oval L is 21 × 14 × 8cm, and Round XXXL is 30 × 8cm. Those examples are very different sizes; they are not interchangeable recommendations for the same recipe.

Before Ordering

Check the included liner, the selected shape and the dimensions together. If your recipe specifies a basket size, use it as the starting point. Follow the basket care instructions and let it dry fully before putting it away.
